Introduction
Professor Cui Guoqing is Director of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Peking University Third Hospital, Deputy Director of the Institute of Sports Medicine, and Director of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
He is a Chief Physician and Second-level Professor.
He joined the Institute of Sports Medicine at Peking University in 1987, progressing from resident to become one of China's leading experts in shoulder and elbow sports medicine.
Professor Cui pioneered the arthroscopic "inlay" coracoid transfer procedure (Cuistow procedure) internationally for the treatment of recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation, with related findings published in authoritative journals such as the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.
He invented two shoulder examination methods—the Hug-up test (resisted abduction and external rotation test) and the IRRTM (internal rotation resistance test in abduction and external rotation)—which have been incorporated into AAOS guidelines, making them the only rotator cuff diagnostic tests from China included in these guidelines.
Professor Cui specializes in arthroscopic minimally invasive treatment of sports injuries of the shoulder, elbow, and knee, including rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocation, refractory tennis elbow, and anterior/posterior cruciate ligament injuries of the knee.
He is also proficient in minimally invasive treatment of degenerative joint disease and artificial joint replacement surgery.
He has performed surgeries on multiple Olympic champions and renowned athletes, and serves as Chief Medical Advisor to the Chinese National Freestyle Skiing Aerials Team.
As Chief Scientist of a Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Professor Cui has led multiple national and provincial/ministerial research projects, focusing on the prevention and treatment of winter sports injuries and the establishment of a technical system for clinical diagnosis and treatment safety.
He serves as Chairman of the Shoulder and Elbow Sports Medicine Committee of the China Medical Education Association, Standing Committee Member of the Sports Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (Electronic Edition).
Professor Cui has received numerous awards, including the First Prize for Science and Technology from the China Sport Science Society, the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the Ministry of Education's National Science and Technology Awards, and the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award.
He has been named a "Top 10 Sports Medicine Doctor" for six consecutive years and received the third "National Famous Doctor" title.
