Founded in 1844, Renji Hospital currently comprises four campuses (East, West, South, and North) and the Shanghai Cancer Institute. It is a comprehensive Grade 3A hospital integrating medical services, education, and research across a full range of specialties. As of the end of 2025, the hospital has 4,886 permanent staff, 2,750 approved beds, and 54 clinical and medical technology departments. In 2025, the hospital recorded 7.4584 million outpatient and emergency visits, 268,200 inpatient discharges, 134,000 inpatient surgeries, and an average length of stay of 4.79 days. The hospital is equipped with advanced medical devices including dual-source photon-counting CT, PET-CT, PET-MR, da Vinci surgical robot, X-ray stereotactic radiotherapy system, TomoTherapy, linear accelerators (LA), 320-slice 640-row ultra-fast spiral CT, hybrid operating room systems, and telemedicine teaching systems. The hospital has 13 National Key Clinical Specialties (Gastroenterology, Key Laboratory of Gastroenterology, Obstetrics, Cardiology, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Urology, Nephrology, Medical Imaging, Rheumatology, Allergology, Transplant Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine) and one national and provincial Multidisciplinary Collaborative Diagnosis and Treatment Capacity Building Project for Major Diseases (End-stage Liver Disease in Children and Adults).
