Introduction
Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, founded in 1937, is a comprehensive teaching hospital affiliated with Fudan University. The hospital’s clinical capabilities in cardiology, hepatology, nephrology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, and pan-vascular medicine are among the best in China and at an advanced international level. Leveraging its leading disciplines, the hospital drives the coordinated development of multiple high-quality specialty clusters. It is home to the National Key Laboratory of Cardiology, the National Clinical Research Center for Radiology and Therapy (Interventional Therapy), two NSFC Basic Science Centers—the Pan-Vascular Interventional Complex System and the Tumor Immune Ecosystem, and the National Capacity Improvement Project for Diagnosis and Treatment of Difficult Diseases—Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases. The hospital is a pilot unit of the National “Flagship” Hospital for Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, with three national “Flagship” departments. It has over 70 national and Shanghai key disciplines and specialties, serves as the host institution for 10 Shanghai Medical Quality Control Centers, and has established nearly 40 disease-centered multidisciplinary clinical diagnosis and treatment centers. The main campus covers an area of 121,400 square meters, with 3,205 beds, over 70 operational units, more than 190 medical and nursing subspecialties, 8 types of outpatient services, and over 90 MDT teams, fully meeting patients’ multi-level and diverse diagnostic and treatment needs. In 2025, the hospital recorded over 6.1 million outpatient and emergency visits, more than 280,000 discharged patients, and over 210,000 inpatient surgeries. Anchored at the forefront of medical technology, the hospital has successfully performed cutting-edge procedures such as Asia’s first robot-assisted living donor liver transplantation and the world’s first polymer valve percutaneous aortic valve replacement.
